Casa Grande to Quartzsite, AZ
January 13-23, 2019
We left Casa Grande last Sunday and arrived in Quartzsite at the Montana rally and the circling of the wagons. After all of the YouTube videos we've watched we finally arrived and we're really here!
(You have to click on this picture to see the Quartzsite sign.)
Many other RVs have arrived since I took these pictures, in our group as well as the whole area.
The sunrises and sunsets have been beautiful. I have tried to figure out how to capture the beautiful colors but these pictures fall short.
I also got a picture of the moonrise with some of the group.
We have a little problem with our 5th wheel back side window. We don't know how it happened but the bottom part of the window that opens broke into tiny pieces of glass. It will be another two weeks before a new window is shipped from the factory, and then however long it takes to get to Quartzsite. In the meantime, we are sporting a one of a kind window covering.
We know that these things will happen and we just have to take it in stride.
Yesterday (Friday) we went to Silly Al's and had pizza for lunch. It was very good!! We also went to the Hi Jolly Memorial. You need to click on the pictures and read the signs. All the time I went to school I never heard anything about the Army and the Camel Corps.
We also drove around Dome Rock Road and down to the Kofa Wildlife Refuge. They had some nice camping spots there for future reference.
Every night we have a campfire and in our group are some talented musicians.
Today (Saturday) we went to the Nellie E Desert Bar. This is an 'attraction' that if you are in the area you must do. You have to want to go there because the 5 mile in and out dirt road is very bumpy. We both had a hamburger, garlic fries and water. 😊 This place is literally out in the middle of nowhere, but a large group of us went and it was a lot of fun. The name came from the copper mine that used to be there. They used to mine the copper and then take it to the smelter and get gold. Now the whole place is powered by solar power and the owner adds something new most every year. Here are a few photos I took.
John at the top of the hill.
The ladies restroom and water tower. I've never seen one like this before!
I think on Tuesday we're going to go into 'town' and go the the Big Tent and see all the vendors that come for the Rvers. It should be fun!
Our next stop will be to do laundry, get water and dump tanks. After that we'll probably go with friends to Organ Pipe National Monument.
Roving on...
I'm so glad you're enjoying it. There's no way to describe Quartzsite to anyone that hasn't been there.
