Quartzsite to Lake Havasu to Quartzsite

Quartzsite to Lake Havasu to Quartzsite
February 11 - 19, 2019

On Monday, February 11 (Alicia's birthday!) we drove to Lake Havasu for Winter Blast.  In my last blog I said it was fireworks all week, but it turned out to be Wednesday (a few) to Saturday (the biggest show).  We were parked on the rodeo grounds with no hookups.  Each site was 22' wide and barely long enough for the 5th wheel.  But we came to be with friends and watch the fireworks!

I got a few pictures of the fireworks but my phone has a hard time focusing and getting a clear shot.  I tried the manual settings but didn't have any better luck.

Since there was a group of us there with Montana 5th wheels Keystone, the manufacturer of our 5th wheels, paid for a lunch for us at Shugrue's in Lake Havasu.  This was the view from the restaurant.

Here is a picture of our group.

On Thursday John and I took a London Bridge tour, well worth the $10 each.  This bridge was built in 1831.  As time passed the bridge began sinking an inch every eight years.  By 1924 the east side of the bridge was 3-4 inches lower than the west side.  It just hadn't been built to withstand 20th century transportation.  They decided to sell the bridge and in 1968 the winning bidder, Robert McCulloch, also the founder of Lake Havasu City, purchased the bridge for $2,460,000.  Each block was disassembled and numbered, shipped through the Panama Canal, and trucked from Los Angeles to Lake Havasu (this was before I-40).  When they reconstructed it they built it on dry land.  Then they removed the dirt under it and dug out a channel for the lake water to go under.  It was opened on October 10, 1971.  The total cost was $5.1 million.

You can still see some of the numbers on the blocks.

We left Winter Blast Sunday and came back to Shady Lane RV Park in Quartzsite.  It's not fancy but it's clean, has full hookups, and for only $19.95 a night.

On Monday we drove over to RV Lifestyles where we ordered the 5th wheel window, to get a status on it.  It had just come in that morning (thank you Lord!).  John got it installed and we no longer have a trash bag taped with blue painters tape over the window.  No more trailer trash for us!

This year has been much colder than usual.  Even the locals say so!  Our next stop is Apple Valley, CA and they're supposed to have snow showers there.  We'll see.

Roving on...
