Yellowstone and Grand Tetons

Yellowstone and Grand Tetons
September 9 - 11, 2019

On Monday, September 9 we headed back into Yellowstone.

Our first stop was the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.  It had been cloudy, but after we had been there for a little while the sun came out.  The canyon and waterfalls were beautiful!

I know that's a lot of pictures but it's hard to just pick a couple.

From there we went to Tower Falls, which was also beautiful.  It's called Tower Falls because of the basalt columns in the canyon.

We drove over the top of the Grand Loop and back to Mammoth Hot Springs.  Here's a view of the hot springs coming from the east.

We went out the north entrance to Gardiner so we could take our pictures at the Yellowstone sign and also the original entrance of Yellowstone.

Can you tell it was a little windy?

On the road to the campground I thought the view was interesting, part being blue skies and clear and the other part raining.
What they say around here about if you don't like the weather wait five minutes and it will change is true.

On Tuesday, September 10 we drove almost three hours to Jackson and then north into Grand Tetons National Park.  If you ever plan to come here our suggestion is to find a campground nearer Jackson to go into Grand Tetons.  We had planned on spending two days but the drive was too long and the weather was rainy.  We ended up going 311 miles over nine hours.  Next time we'll plan better.

Because the weather was cloudy, rainy, windy and cold, we didn't get very many pictures.  But we could see how beautiful the Teton mountains are.

John's step-sister's son, Zach, is a ranger in Grand Teton, so we met him for lunch.  We had a great time catching up with him and learning about his job and what he had been doing since we last saw him.  After we got back to the campground we remembered we didn't get a picture, but it was great to get to see him!

Since the weather hasn't been cooperating we decided to stay home on Wednesday and relax.  It's only in the mid 40s and really windy here.  We've had wind gusts over 20 mph so it's nice just to stay indoors and stay warm.

Roving on...
