Paducah, KY to South Shore, KY

Paducah, KY to South Shore, KY
October 7 - 17, 2019

On Monday, October 7 we drove to Laurel Branch Campground (CoE) near McDaniels, KY.

We spent a couple of days just enjoying the beautiful weather, fall colors, and relaxing.

On Thursday, October 10 we drove to Florence, IN, just across the Ohio River from KY.

We stayed at Follow the River RV Resort.

It was a nice park and good base camp to see the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum.

On Friday, October 11 we went to the Ark Encounter in Williamstown.  The Ark was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be.  It's based on the measurements given by God to Noah - 510' long, 85' wide, 51' high and has three stories.

It is the largest timber frame structure in the world.  It took Noah 55-75 years to build the original Ark and everything in it.  After going through this one I can see why.  Although they did have tools and metalworking there were only Noah and his three sons working on it.

Here are some pictures of what it might have looked like on the inside.

Here are some of the animals that were on the Ark.

Many people say that there wasn't room for all the animals on the Ark, but there was with room left over.  God sent juveniles to the Ark because they were smaller and would have had a longer time frame to have babies after they got off the Ark.

This is what the living quarters for Noah and his family might have looked like.

Here is some interesting information on ice dating methods and climate change.  Read these in light of what we are being told about dating methods and climate change today.

We would highly recommend both the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum.

On Saturday, October 12 we went to the Creation Museum in Petersburg.  It was so refreshing not to have the evolution theory touted as facts like at the national, state and local parks.  Evolution is a theory, and if looked at closely cannot be proven by science.

They have some very interesting displays.

(Our grandson loves dinosaurs so we took a lot of pictures of those.)

Here is another dinosaur skeleton they found and reassembled.  The head was so heavy they put it in a separate case and put a lighter duplicate on the whole skeleton display.

We believe that man and dinosaurs were created by God on the sixth day of creation and lived together.  If you are interested in finding out more please go to https://answersingenesis.org/.  They have an excellent website and can answer all your questions.

On Monday, October 14 we drove to South Shore, KY to visit friends Bill and Donna.  They have invited us several times to come and now that we are retired we can do so.  They have a beautiful house and property and a pad with full hookups behind their house.  We really appreciate the invitation and chance to come and see them.

We'll be here until Saturday morning and then we'll be...

Dorrance, Kansas to Paducah, Kentucky

Dorrance, Kansas to Paducah, Kentucky
September 25 - October 6, 2019

We left Minooka Park Campground on Sunday, September 29.

I thought these fence posts made out of local rock were interesting.  I guess they used what was available, and since there were no trees they used the local rock.

We crossed into Missouri.

We stayed in Weston, MO at Weston Bend State Park for three nights.  It was a nice park and we could have stayed another day but already had reservations for our next stop.  Again we forgot to take a picture of the campground.

While we were there we visited with Dave and Vickie.
Dave was a high school friend and it was fun listening to Dave and John tell their stories.  Dave restores old cars and trucks and took me for a ride in a roadster, '59 pickup, and Model A.  That was a lot of fun!  Thanks for your hospitality!

One day we drove to Hamilton, MO and went to the Missouri Star Quilt Company stores.

Most of the town is fabric shops.  They started in one store and have expanded over the years to several stores.  The business saved the town and is a must stop for quilters.  Of course I bought some fabric!

On Wednesday, October 2 we went to Springfield for two nights.  We stayed in a Boondockers Welcome driveway in a rural area.  It was quiet and the neighbor gave us some fresh picked tomatoes.  Forgot to take a picture, again.

We went to the Bass Pro "mother store".
It was huge and we didn't even see part of it.  In the store they have the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum, with guns from the 1500's to today (no pictures allowed).  It was very interesting.

Then we went to Lambert's Cafe for dinner, home of the throwed roll.

They have delicious rolls, and when they come out of the oven the waiters tell you and if you want one they throw it at you (I tried to get a good picture but the throwing and my camera click never got together).  They also have big bowls of fried okra, tomatoes and macaroni, fried potatoes and onions, and black eyed peas that they come around with.  It was fun and the food is good too!

On Friday, October 4 we drove to Van Buren, MO and stayed at Big Spring Camp for one night.  It was right on the Current River, which is fed by Big Spring.

Big Spring is the largest spring in Missouri and one of the largest in the world with a daily average flow of 288 million gallons.  It wasn't far away so we drove to it.

We could have stayed a couple more days but already had reservations for our next stop.  I took pictures of the river but not the campsite.

On Saturday, October 5 we drove to Paducah, Kentucky.  First we went over the Mississippi River...

then the Ohio River...

and into Kentucky.

We are staying at the Fern Lake Campground for two nights.

Sunday, October 6 we went to the National Quilt Museum.
John even said there were a few he liked.  The detail on them is amazing.  Some of them look like art but they are fabric.  The one exception was a quilt made of wood.  It looks just like it's made of fabric.

Here are a few of the quilts.

This one was 9' x 30'.

These were hand pieced, hand stitched, and hand quilted.  Amazing!

These are miniature quilts.  All the pieces are so tiny.
